JUST WATER Giving Platform Update

It is hard to believe that just a little over three years ago, the Justice Movement was in the earliest stages of development and implementation. Since then, Justice Advocates just like YOU from all over the globe have raised nearly $120,000 for clean water! Individuals, groups of friends, churches, districts, and youth groups have joined together to break the cycles of injustice and poverty by providing clean and safe water for thousands of people. We could not have done this without you.

From the beginning, the first $100,000 raised through the JUST WATER initiative was earmarked for Safe Water and Sanitation projects in South Asia. We are happy to report that this goal was reached and several WASH projects have already begun in villages in Sri Lanka.

But our work is still not done. Almost a billion people around the world still lack access to clean and safe water.

Since our first goal was met, all additional gifts received above the first $100,000 have been directed toward the NCM Global Clean Water Fund. By giving to this fund, you are partnering with Nazarene Compassionate Ministries and local Nazarene churches to support safe-water initiatives around the world.

Globally, Nazarene churches have served their communities by combining safe water resources with sanitation facilities and hygiene training. Thousands of people in Sierra Leone, Liberia, Mozambique, Haiti, and Kenya have received water resources, including borehole wells, cisterns, and bio-sand filters. And, as part of a plan to teach long-term water management, hundreds of volunteers have been trained to manage, maintain and sustain their water and sanitation facilities. In Sri Lanka, Nazarene Compassionate Ministries is serving in areas where there aren’t churches yet. More than 5,200 people in affected communities have been served by Nazarenes, an effort greatly aided by Nazarene youth and the Justice Movement.

Additionally, because we have reached this first goal, we are redirecting our JUST WATER online giving platform away from Causevox and directly onto the NCM website. This decision helps reduce overhead costs so that more money may go directly to clean water projects around the world. Beginning March 1, 2018, the Causevox giving page at justwater.causevox.com will no longer be available to receive online donations. We hope that you will continue to be an advocate for justice as you help us redirect online JUST WATER giving to the NCM website at ncm.org/JustWater.

Today is Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of Lent. Lent is a season of fasting and preparation leading up to Easter. During Lent, Christians all over the world make intentional sacrifices in order to be united in the suffering of Christ and strengthen their relationship with God and others. Perhaps now would be a good time to begin a JUST WATER challenge (maybe for the first, third, or tenth time!) as you choose to drink only water during the season of Lent. If so, we would love to follow your JUST WATER journey! Simply tag us on social media (@thejustmove) or use the hashtag #JustWaterChallenge as you share your story.

Thank you for your continued support of JUST WATER and the Justice Movement. We hope that this Lenten season you may find more ways to make your Just Move in your community and across the world.
